Claim refunds through a belated return

Missing the July deadline convinces some taxpayers that their refund simply vanished with it. The money remains claimable, and the law keeps a door open.

Section 139(4) allows filing until 31 December of the assessment year, and refund claims survive intact within that window. Excess TDS on salary, bank interest, or property sales returns to you after routine processing. A late fee under Section 234F applies, yet a refund worth thousands usually dwarfs it comfortably.

Never abandon money that belongs to you over a missed date. File a belated return, claim what the department owes, and close the year properly.
